Yay, it’s block release day for the I Wish You a Merry Quilt-A-Long. It is actually double the fun today because there are two new blocks being released, and yes each block has its own prize drawing. This post is for my version of Block 3 and you can find my post for Block 4 here. If you are new to the QAL take a look at this post by Pretty Piney that has all the QAL links so far. It is not too late to join in the fun!
Are you ready for some Santa action? Laura Piland of Slice of Pi Quilts has designed an easy and fun pattern of Santa’s Belt for Block 3.
I chose pretty traditional colors for this block. Solid red and black, with a speckled silver for the belt buckle. It will be fun to see what fabric variations others come up with.
My Tips for the Block
The piecing for this block is pretty easy and the pattern directions are straightforward. It is amazing how just a few rectangles and squares are immediately recognizable as Santa’s Belt. What a clever design!
Enter the Block Prize Giveaway
We have another great prize bundle for Block 3: A 6 month subscription to Make Modern magazine and one pdf pattern from Cooking Up Quilts. As a BONUS, Make Modern is offering all QAL participants 25% off single issues and back issue bundles – just use code MerryQAL2017 at checkout! They just announced the prices are going up September 1st, so be sure to grab the issues you want soon! The code will still work until the end of the QAL in January though. (Note that the code won’t work on subscriptions.)
To be entered in the prize drawing just post a picture of your finished Block 3 in one of three places:
- Facebook Group
- Instagram with hashtag #iwishyouamerryqal
- Or link up your post of your finished block with the linky party on the designer’s blog Slice of Pi Quilts.
You must post your block in one of these locations by midnight EST on Monday September 11. Good luck and I’m looking forward to seeing how you make it your own!
Grand Prize Drawing in January
News Flash! There will be a drawing for an amazing grand prize in January. To be eligible for the grand prize drawing you must post a completed quilt top using all twelve of the QAL blocks by January 16. Even if you miss deadlines for some of the individual block giveaways you can still post your whole top for the grand prize. Look at these amazing sponsors for the grand prize!
