Pop Art Flowers Mini Quilt
Here is a look at my most recent finish, a Pop Art Flowers mini quilt made for a black and white quilt swap. It was my very first quilt swap, so I'm no longer a swap virgin. It was a fun excuse to design a mini quilt and I loved following the progress of quilters all over the world.
I was lucky to happen onto a swap hosted by @shoppershaz_swaphost on Instagram. Sharon hosts many (many!) swaps and she has the process incredibly well organized. She provides clear guidelines and her system for regular check-ins on Instagram encourages sharing and support within the group. Great experience all around!
Since I avoid pinning whenever possible I used a pinless technique for piecing these curves. The small blocks were cut a little bit oversize so there would be extra fabric to hold on to while piecing and to allow for precise squaring up. I wanted those quarter circles to just skim the edges of the blocks. All the fabrics and curves make my eyes twirl, but in a good way. My swap partner wanted a pop of pink so I added the flower centers and the binding flange. Pink was a great choice to bring the black and white fabrics alive.
I started this blog at the end of last summer then left it sadly alone while other commitments took over my time. Now the decks are cleared for quilting activities and I will be posting regularly. Promise!
