Our fourth mystery Quilt Along (QAL) will begin on Tuesday, August 4 and run until Tuesday, December 1. I'm thrilled to share that the 2020 theme is Quilt Along By The Sea. So get ready to join us on a salty, quilty adventure!

How the QAL Works

The quilt block patterns will be released as pdf files on Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m. Eastern time. This is a mystery QAL so the block patterns will be a surprise. There will be twelve blocks that are each 12" square. All of the block patterns will be free to download until the end of the QAL.

Community

You will find announcements and plenty of other quilters to cheer you on in the Partners in Design Facebook Group. Join the group today and browse through the community postings.

On Instagram you can use #qalbythesea on your posts. Be sure to follow the hashtag as well so you can see what everyone else is making.

I am one of the hosts for the QAL, so I will be posting my versions of the blocks and my tips here on my blog. I would love for you to follow along with me.

The absolute best thing is sharing and seeing what everyone is making. Even if you are not keeping up with the schedule or posting for the prize drawings we still want to see what you are making!

Schedule

We have divided the QAL into three segments with four blocks in each segment. The blocks will be released every Tuesday at 8:00 a.m Eastern time during the segment, with a catch up week at the end of each segment. There will be a prize drawing at the end of each segment and a grand prize drawing at the end of the QAL.

Prizes

And of course there are prizes! There will be a prize drawing at the end of each segment and then a grand prize drawing at the end of the whole QAL. The prize drawings are open to participants who are at least 18 years old.

In order to include all eligible participants in our prize giveaway, we are having two separate prizes for each QAL Segment and for the Grand Prize. One prize will be for our USA participants and one for our international participants. Due to shipping costs from the USA to international addresses, the international prizes will be patterns and/or an e-magazine that will be sent in electronic format. International prizes may be from companies other than those shown in the prize sponsor logo below.

 

How to Enter the Prize Drawings

There are three places you can share your blocks to be entered in the random prize drawings. Each participant will only be entered once in each drawing, even if you post in multiple places. Please note either "USA" or "International" on your entry post.

Facebook - share your blocks in the Partners in Design Facebook Group

  • Instagram - Share your blocks with hashtag #qalbythesea
  • Blog Linky - The hosts will share a link-up on their wrap-up posts at the end of each segment.

Segment Prizes

To be eligible to win a segment prize, you will need to make all four blocks from that segment. In a single post, share a photo (or photos) of your blocks by the entry deadline and you will be entered in the segment prize drawing.

Grand Prize

To be eligible to win the grand prize, you will need to make all twelve blocks from the QAL. In a single post, share a photo (or photos) of your blocks by the entry deadline and you will be entered in the segment prize drawing.

We are a global group of eleven pattern designers who have teamed up to bring you fantastic quilt along experiences. Why? Because we all love to see quilters get excited about making their own beautiful creations with our designs. In addition to designing the quilt blocks, some of us will also be hosts for one or more segments of the QAL, which means we will post our version of each block and share our construction tips on our websites.
