Quilt Along By The Sea Block 11

Welcome to Block 11 in the Quilt Along By The Sea. This extra fun Ab the Crab block was designed by Abbie Danahy, and just like the designer, Ab the Crab is never crabby, always nice! You can find the pattern and tutorial on her website: Sparkle On!.

Ab the Crab Block

This is my version of Abbie's Ab the Crab block. I think my favorite parts are the googly eyes on those eye stalks. So clever! For my fabric choices I was able to use pieces left over from previous blocks. I am sticking to my resolve not to buy any new fabrics for this quilt along!

My Tips for Block 11

This block uses fused appliqué on a simple pieced background, a technique familiar from previous blocks. I've shared technique tips before, so this time I want to share one of my favorite tools for appliqué. I absolutely love using Karen Buckley's Perfect Scissors for detailed cutting. These scissors have serrated edges that grab the fabric all the way to the tips. I own all three sizes of these scissors. This green pair is the smallest at only 4" and it was perfect for cutting out the detailed pieces in this pattern.
